The instrument incorporates a fixed black transmitter and howler assembly, a corded receiver, switch hook, enclosed wooden key housing, internal induction and retardation coils, condensers, terminal strip, and signaling contacts. A paper wiring diagram mounted beneath the backboard identifies the transmitter, receiver, howler, signaling key, switch hook, talking battery, and ten-cell signaling battery arrangement. The diagram is marked "512-A," "Issue 9," and "Pat'd in U.S.A. Sept. 1, 1894," with a notation that batteries were not furnished with the set.
