Antique Japanese ukiyo-e color woodblock print attributed to Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769-1825), depicting a standing figure with a musician playing a shamisen in the background.
The accompanying identification card attributes the work to Toyokuni I, records the signature as "Toyokuni ga," a Kiwame censor seal, and dates the print to approximately 1820. The card tentatively identifies the publisher as Kinsendo.
Museum collections confirm that Toyokuni I used the Toyokuni ga signature and that his early 19th-century actor prints can bear the Kiwame censor seal. Toyokuni was particularly known for yakusha-e, or portraits and scenes involving Kabuki actors.
Because the attribution information comes from an accompanying card and has not been independently authenticated from the print itself, the cataloging should retain the attribution rather than presenting the identification as conclusively verified.
