Carved northern Indigenous figural sculpture depicting a standing fisherman carrying a fish in one hand and a small bucket or container in the other. The work appears to be carved primarily from caribou bone, with the porous internal structure of the organic material visible along the base. Incised detailing defines the face, clothing and accessories. The underside is hand-incised "HARRY," "J.T." and "2011." Measures approximately 5.5 inches tall.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

The precise identity of the artist signing this work "HARRY / J.T." has not been conclusively established. The carving belongs to the broader Inuit/Inuvialuit tradition of northern figurative sculpture, in which artists have worked with locally available materials including stone, bone, antler and other organic media. Subjects frequently reflect northern daily life, hunting, fishing, wildlife and community experience.

This 2011 work depicts a fisherman carrying his catch and equipment, linking it closely to the everyday subsistence and fishing themes commonly represented in northern carving. The use of what appears to be caribou bone is also consistent with the long-standing use of locally sourced organic materials by Arctic artists. Although the initials J.T. may suggest a connection to a documented northern carving family, the available evidence does not presently support assigning a specific surname or biography to the artist. The work is therefore catalogued according to its visible inscription as Harry / J.T.
