Scottish-born Canadian painter Sheila Adams is a long-established Western Canadian artist known for her vibrant oil and acrylic landscapes inspired by the Rocky Mountains, Foothills, and Alberta plains. She immigrated to Canada in 1956, settling in Calgary, where the dramatic geography of Western Canada became the foundation of her artistic voice.

Adams' work is recognized for its fluid compositions, expressive colour, and energetic interpretation of natural environments. Over decades of practice, she has explored a wide range of techniques, continually experimenting with colour theory, design, and contemporary approaches to landscape painting. Her influences include Canadian artists Norman Brown and Jean Geddes, whose impact can be seen in her confident brushwork and atmospheric palette.

Her paintings appear in private and corporate collections across Canada, the United States, Great Britain, and South Africa, reflecting her broad appeal among collectors. She is an active member of the Calgary Sketch Club and the Federation of Canadian Artists, earning signature status with the Federation in March 1996, a distinction recognizing professional achievement and contribution to the arts community.

Adams has pursued extensive professional development throughout North America, studying with notable instructors such as Robert Caples, Naomi Brotherton, Pat Jones, Carrie Burns Brown, Neil Patterson, and Nana Gerosimova. Her training spans institutions in California, Alberta, British Columbia, Washington State, and Georgia, contributing to her technical depth and versatility.

Her auction presence is established, with recorded sales including works such as Untitled (Gull on a Rock in a Coastal Landscape) and Secret Garden, reflecting steady collector interest in her landscapes and nature-based compositions.

Today, Sheila Adams continues to be recognized for her lifelong commitment to artistic growth, her expressive interpretation of Western Canadian landscapes, and her enduring presence in the Canadian art market.
