An S.H. Couch Autophone No. 99 wall-mounted telephone designed for a private exchange system. The apparatus is mounted on a shaped oak backboard and incorporates a circular selector dial numbered 1 through 50, a hinged transmitter housing with black flared mouthpiece, twin bells, and a separate receiver attached by a green cloth-covered cord. Opening the hinged housing reveals the electromagnetic coils, contact bank, wiring, and transmitter assembly. The dial bears an S.H. Couch Co., Inc. Autophone maker's plate with patent dates of May 17, 1910 and June 20, 1916. The molded mouthpiece surround is marked for S.H. Couch Company, Inc., Norfolk Downs, Massachusetts.
