ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Peter Ragee (b. March 28, 1955) is an Inuit artist associated with Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, one of the most important centres of Inuit graphic art and sculpture in Canada. Ragee has worked in both graphic arts and sculpture, with documented work including drawing, coloured pencil, felt-tip pen, printmaking and carving.

Ragee was the adopted son of noted Kinngait artist Egevadluq Ragee (1920-1983) and grew up within a family closely connected to the development of Cape Dorset art. Egevadluq became an important early artist associated with the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, and Peter continued the family's artistic tradition.

His work often draws on Inuit life, animals, hunting and relationships with the Arctic environment. Ragee has participated in exhibitions including the Great Northern Arts Festival in Inuvik, and his work is represented in documented public and private collections. He is recorded under artist identification E7-1344 and is associated with Cape Dorset/Kinngait.
