Pair of landscape prints depicting rustic stone water mills beside wooded waterways. Both compositions feature subdued autumnal palettes of ochre, brown, gray, and muted green, with architectural details reflected in the surrounding water. Each bears the printed signature "Keirstead" within the image. Presented under glass with wide, linen-textured mats and coordinating dark wood-tone frames with gilt accents.

ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
James Lorimer Keirstead (born 1932) is a Canadian landscape and heritage artist born in Saint John, New Brunswick. Raised in Toronto, Whitby, and Sharbot Lake, Ontario, he showed an early interest in drawing before joining the Canadian Army as a teenager. During his Korean War service in 1952-53, he continued to paint whenever materials allowed, sometimes working with a small children's watercolor set.

After returning to Canada, Keirstead settled in Kingston and served with the Ontario Provincial Police from 1954 to 1965. During those years, he pursued art courses, studied in galleries and libraries, and painted in his spare time. In 1965, he left police work to devote himself fully to art, exhibiting and placing his work through galleries across Canada.

Keirstead became known for impressionistic landscapes created with oils, brushes, and painting knives. His textured compositions frequently portray historic mills, stone homesteads, barns, gardens, and peaceful rural scenery. Ontario provided many of his earliest subjects, while later travels expanded his work to Quebec, Atlantic Canada, Western Canada, and Europe. His angular signature became closely associated with nostalgic architectural scenes and warmly observed Canadian landscapes. In later years, he also drew upon his wartime experience to create military-history paintings honoring Canadian service members.
