A coordinated pair of Japanese hand-printed color woodblock prints on paper after designs by Hasegawa Sadanobu III. "Maiko Girl, doing Tea Ceremony" depicts a seated maiko preparing tea beside a kettle and utensils, while "Maiko Girl, doing Flower Arrangement" portrays a maiko arranging flowering branches in a traditional interior. Both compositions feature richly patterned kimono in bright green, blue, pink, red, and yellow. Each print bears a Japanese signature and hexagonal seal. Uchida Art Co., Ltd. labels identify the works as Kyoto Handicraft Center issues numbered NW-13 and NW-16. Presented under glass with light-colored mats in matching black frames.

ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
Hasegawa Sadanobu III (1881-1963) was a Japanese print artist born in Osaka into an established family of ukiyo-e designers. The son and pupil of Hasegawa Sadanobu II, he inherited a lineage that had shaped Osaka printmaking since the nineteenth century. Early in his career he worked under the art name Konobu III before assuming the Sadanobu name. Working from the Meiji era into the mid-Showa period, Sadanobu III bridged traditional ukiyo-e subjects and the renewed woodblock-print culture associated with shin hanga. His designs encompassed kabuki actors, bunraku puppet theater, historical narratives, literary illustrations, genre scenes, and elegantly composed images of Japanese women. Rich costume patterns, poised figures, and carefully ordered interiors became recurring features of his work. Sadanobu III maintained strong ties to Osaka's theatrical culture while also producing designs for Uchida Art in Kyoto. Through these collaborations, his images reached audiences well beyond Japan and helped preserve traditional printmaking techniques in a modern publishing environment. His work remains admired for its clear draftsmanship, decorative color, and graceful interpretation of Japanese customs and performance traditions.
