Peter and Traudl Markgraf were a husband-and-wife team of silkscreen artists who played a major role in promoting Canadian art through high-fidelity serigraph reproductions. Born in Germany in the mid-1920s, they studied art in Munich before immigrating to Canada in 1957, settling first in Quebec and later in Hudson, where they established a dedicated printmaking studio.

The Markgrafs developed a specialized silkscreen process noted for its exceptional tonal quality and accuracy to original paintings. Their technical mastery led to collaborations with the National Gallery of Canada, the Queen's Printer, and major Canadian publishers. They produced editions of works by the Group of Seven, Tom Thomson, A.Y. Jackson, and numerous contemporary Canadian artists.

In the late 1970s, the couple moved to Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast, where they created approximately 200 editions of their own prints-primarily West Coast landscapes, often depicting recognizable British Columbia scenery. These editions typically included around 100 signed and numbered prints, plus artist's and printer's proofs. Their work from this period is widely collected and remains a staple in Canadian printmaking circles.
