Notable portrait painting by Joseph Hilpert (1895-1975), the listed Yugoslavian-Canadian artist renowned for his highly detailed miniature portraits executed on unconventional mediums. Hilpert produced more than 200 historical portrait miniatures, often working in oil on metal sheets or panels, creating a distinctive glossy, reflective surface. 11" x 13".
This example appears to be painted on a ceramic tile, housed in a heavy bronze frame with a radiating textured border. The subject is rendered in Hilpert's characteristic formal style, showing strong facial modeling, crisp attire, and controlled lighting. The work reflects Hilpert's specialized technique and his focus on composers, statesmen, and notable historical figures.
