The handles feature scalloped terminals with raised floral garlands, scrollwork, beveled borders, and polished fields. No monograms are visible. Pieces are stamped "INTERNATIONAL" with emblem and "STERLING." The service is housed in a fitted dark wood chest with royal-blue lining and a satin-lined lid.

ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
Alfred G. Kintz (1884-1963) was an American industrial designer whose long career was closely tied to Connecticut's celebrated silver industry. He joined the International Silver Company around 1910 and remained there until his retirement in 1959, creating flatware and hollowware during nearly five decades of changing American taste.

Kintz worked fluently across classical, romantic, Art Deco, and Scandinavian-influenced styles. His early designs included refined Classical Revival patterns, while his work for International Silver's late-1920s Spirit of Today line explored a more modern visual language. He received numerous American design patents, including at least 45 for flatware, reflecting both his productivity and his command of ornament suited to mass production in silver.

In 1939 Kintz designed two of his best-known sterling patterns, Prelude and Royal Danish. Prelude paired polished surfaces with a finely modeled floral garland, giving traditional ornament a graceful twentieth-century character. After undertaking supervisory responsibilities during World War II, Kintz became manager of International Silver's hollowware production in 1946. His postwar Northern Lights design combined streamlined form, restrained ornament, and Scandinavian influence. Kintz's broad stylistic range and enduring tableware designs preserve an important chapter in American decorative-arts history.
