Early 20th-century wall-mounted telephone switchboard or intercommunication master station constructed in finished oak. The upper panel incorporates numbered line positions 1 through 7, plug sockets and cloth-covered connecting cords. A black hanging receiver and brass-toned fixed horn transmitter are mounted below the switchboard. The hinged upper cabinet opens to reveal switching contacts, terminals and internal wiring. The lower section contains a hand-cranked magneto assembly with six horseshoe magnets, while a projecting wooden shelf provides a writing surface. The upper terminal board is stamped 656. The maker and precise model are not confirmed.
