A collectible pair of two-tone salt-glazed stoneware liquor jugs with direct British Columbia provenance, both featuring the classic configuration of rich dark brown Albany-slip glazed upper bodies transitioning to unglazed grey stoneware lower bodies, each retaining their original cork stoppers.
The smaller jug is the standout piece - an Imperial Quart vessel bearing the printed trade stamp of the Gold Seal Liquor Co. Ltd., Incorporated 1901, Vancouver, B.C., with the legend "GUARANTEED FULL / IMPERIAL QUART" flanking a barrel motif medallion. Gold Seal Liquor Co. was one of Vancouver's earliest licensed liquor distributors, making this jug a genuine artifact of pre-Prohibition and early British Columbia commercial history.
The larger companion jug is an unmarked 2-quart handled stoneware jug with a well-formed applied loop handle, consistent in form and glaze character with Canadian stoneware production of the same era, circa 1900-1920.
