A pair of glass-fronted art prints reproducing two 19th-century paintings. William-Adolphe Bouguereau's L'Oiseau Chéri (Dear Bird), originally painted in 1867, depicts a young girl holding a small bird aloft. It is presented with layered green, black, and gold-tone matting in a gray and gold-tone frame. William John Hennessy's The Pride of Dijon, originally painted in 1879, portrays an elegantly dressed couple seated on a veranda overlooking water and a flowering garden. It is presented within a wide cream-colored mat and an ornate gilt-tone frame. Both frames bear Ren-Wil Inc. labels from Montreal, Canada.

ARTIST / CREATOR BIOGRAPHY
William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) was a French academic painter born and raised in La Rochelle. He studied under François-Édouard Picot at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and won the Prix de Rome in 1850, allowing him to continue his training in Italy. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and became one of the most technically accomplished representatives of the French academic tradition. Bouguereau built his compositions through disciplined drawing, carefully modeled figures, and finely blended surfaces. His subjects ranged from mythology and allegory to idealized scenes of childhood, motherhood, and rural life. Although changing tastes diminished his reputation during the rise of modernism, renewed study has brought attention to the precision, luminosity, and emotional clarity that characterize his work. William John Hennessy (1839-1917) was an Irish-born artist whose career connected Ireland, the United States, England, and France. Born in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, he joined his family in New York as a child and entered the National Academy of Design in 1854. He was elected an associate of the Academy in 1861 and a full National Academician in 1863. Hennessy first established himself through genre painting and illustration, contributing designs to periodicals and illustrated editions of works by poets including Longfellow and Tennyson. He moved to Europe in 1870, later settling in Normandy before returning to England. His paintings often unite intimate human narratives with gardens, landscapes, and carefully observed interiors, reflecting the poetic genre tradition that shaped his transatlantic career.
