Akai model 1710W four-track stereophonic and monophonic open-reel tape recorder housed in a walnut-finish wood cabinet with a fitted hinged cover and built-in stereo speaker system. This tube-amplified recorder accommodates reels up to 7 inches and offers three standard tape speeds: 1 7/8, 3 3/4, and 7 1/2 inches per second. The front panel includes separate left and right volume controls, a tone control, stereo track selector, dual VU meters, tape counter, automatic shutoff, pause control, and fast-forward and rewind functions. Connections include left and right microphone inputs, a stereo headphone jack, external speaker outputs, preamplifier record/play outputs, and phono/radio inputs. Rear markings identify Akai Electric Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, with selectable multi-voltage AC operation.
