1986 Signed Original Pauline Thibodeau Paquin Painting "Cross Country Skiing" - Oil on Board - Exterior frame dimensions: 27" x 24" - Artist signed on front and back
Pauline Thibodeau Paquin (b. 1952)
Born in St-Monique (Mirabel), Quebec in 1952, Pauline Thibodeau Paquin is a celebrated figurative naive painter known for her acute sense of observation, meticulous eye for detail, and an explosive colour palette. Essentially self-taught, she trained as a nurse before her passion for oil painting took centre stage. Strong NationsStrong Nations
Her background working with children as a school nurse gave her an intimate window into the world of childhood - its imagination, spontaneity, and simplicity - themes that would come to define her entire body of work. By the 1970s, her scenes drawn from an idealized vision of childhood had rapidly found an audience across all strata of Quebec society, helping to popularize art throughout the province. She became a full-time artist in 1979. Cowley AbbottStrong Nations
Working primarily in oils and acrylics, Paquin's paintings centre on children at play, rendered in a style that blends Fauvism with Naive Art. Her canvases are often adorned with collages, and the faceless characters that inhabit them are an intentional and iconic hallmark of her style. As the artist herself has explained, the absence of faces allows her subjects to represent all the children of the world, not just specific individuals. AskARTStrong Nations
Her works are held in prominent collections including the University of Alberta Museums in Edmonton and the Maison Saint-Gabriel Museum in Montreal. In 1996, Canada Post recognized her talent by issuing a commemorative stamp to mark the 50th anniversary of UNICEF. AskARTDerviliaart
